Senior year is full of unforgettable moments—and your senior photos should be one of them. If you’re looking for a starting point for planning your senior pictures in Spokane, Washington, this guide will help you feel confident and prepared every step of the way.

As a Spokane senior photographer, I’m here to walk you through the when, where, and what to wear for your session so that your photos not only reflect this exciting season but also feel true to you.

WHEN to Take Your Senior Photos

One of the first decisions to make when planning your senior pictures is when to schedule your session. Spokane is beautiful year-round, and each season offers something unique—lush greens in spring, golden fields and sunshine in summer, colorful leaves in fall, and snowy magic in winter.

One important thing to keep in mind is your school's yearbook photo deadline. This varies by school, but most are due by October or November of your senior year. So if you’re dreaming of winter photos, consider booking a package that allows for two sessions or locations, so you can meet the yearbook deadline and still get that snowy session later!

I know it can feel early to plan photos almost a year before graduation, but trust me—it goes by fast. A great option I always suggest is to add on a cap & gown mini session around graduation. That way you get the best of both worlds: your yearbook photo and the chance to capture your graduation glow!

Spring (April–June)

Spring is perfect for seniors who love blooming flowers, lush greenery, and fresh vibes. It’s also a great time if you want to get your photos done before the rush of summer.

Pros: Mild weather, colorful backgrounds, everything feels fresh
Bonus: Great if you're involved in summer sports or camps and need photos earlier.

Summer (July–August)

Summer gives you the most flexibility with schedules, longer days, and golden sunsets. Think warm tones, wildflowers, and glowing golden hour.

Pros: Warm evenings, golden fields, freedom from school stress
Tip: Book early—summer fills up fast!

Fall (September–early November)

Fall in Spokane is absolutely stunning with all the vibrant leaves. This is a favorite for seniors who love cozy sweaters and earthy tones. But photographers book up fast during fall so you want to schedule sooner than later.

Pros: Warm colors, layered outfits, cooler temps
Vibe: Think flannels, boots, and scenic backdrops.

Winter (December–February)

If you want something bold and unique, winter is your season. Snowy sessions in the woods or downtown can be truly magical.

Pros: Cozy vibes, clean white backdrops, fewer crowds
Heads up: Bundle up and plan for flexibility in case of snow.

WHERE to Take Senior Pictures in Spokane

Spokane offers a dream mix of urban, natural, and rustic locations. Here are some of my go-to senior photo spots:

In the City

Downtown Spokane offers a mix of modern and vintage textures. Think brick walls, staircases, alleys, murals, and rooftop vibes.

Perfect for: A chic, urban look with lots of variety in a short distance.

Open Fields

Golden fields are a timeless favorite, especially during golden hour. These give your session a soft, natural, dreamy feel.

Great locations: Liberty Lake regional park, Slavin, or Nine Mile boat launch are a couple of my favorites

Woodsy Areas

Whether it’s Riverside State Park or a pine-dotted trail, Spokane’s woodsy locations are perfect for cozy, Pacific Northwest vibes.

Perfect for: Flannels, boots, and a more nature-inspired look.

By the Water

Whether you love lakes, rivers, or waterfalls, spots like Bowl & Pitcher, Donkey Island, and Liberty Lake offer amazing water backdrops.

Add-on tip: Water locations can be super fun in summer for a barefoot or playful shot in the water!

WHAT TO WEAR for Your Senior Session

Choosing outfits doesn’t have to be stressful. Here’s how to build a solid lineup:

1. Something Timeless

Pick at least one outfit that feels classic and will never go out of style. Think neutral tones, solid colors, or subtle patterns. These photos will still feel “you” years from now.

Examples: A white blouse and jeans, a black dress, a tailored blazer

2. Something True to You

This is your time to show off your personality. Whether you love band tees, boots, bright colors, or statement pieces—bring it!

Think about: What do your friends say is so you? Let that shine!

3. Multiple Outfits = More Variety

Plan for 2–4 outfits total. I recommend mixing dressy, casual, and fun options. Don’t forget accessories like hats, layers, jackets, and shoes!

Bonus Tip: Keep a neutral pair of shoes handy that goes with anything.
